A mother and her 8 month old son have just signed on to Universal Credit. They are currently living with her mother who works part time as a cleaner on minimum wage. She is trying to feed them all and struggling. Once the young mother’s claim for Universal Credit has been processed she will be able to apply for an advanced payment which she can then pay back via deductions from future payments. We agreed to send her £50 to help them to do a good food shop for the three of them.
