Man with cancer having to give up self-employment

A man who has always been self-employed has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing intensive treatment.  He had to give up working in December because of his condition, and has recently submitted a claim to be put on to Employment Support Allowance and Personal Independence Payments, which will take some time to be received, assessed and put into payment.  He has been existing by using the remains of a tax rebate and his overdraft to pay his mortgage and bills.  His cooker has broken and our agents have applied for a grant to get this replaced but asked us to help him with some money for food, which we agreed to, sending him £100.
