We had a difficult case yesterday. A lady who has just been released from her latest period in hospital, this latest was for six months, was in dire need of some money. She has spent over 30 years of her life, more than half of it, sectioned under the mental health act. She is currently living in supported accommodation which they are hoping will work out for her as she doesn’t want to have to go back into hospital again. She is though unable to cover the shortfall in her rent, nor pay her gas bill. Her mental health holds her back, but her budgeting skills are not good, so when our agents visited her she had absolutely no food in the house at all. They have put in an application for PIP, but she has only just been assessed so it will be at least another 4 weeks before that is put into payment. We agreed to send her £175, to cover the shortfall in the rent, the gas bill and to pay for some food.
