Debt is biting hard at people unfortunately. We had another request for help with a debt relief order fee. This time it was for a single lady who has lived in her social housing home for the past seven years. She does work and is ‘in receipt’ of Universal Credit, however, as her hours of work are variable, this frequently means that her Universal Credit payment is reduced to zero. She is struggling to cope with the rent and the council tax, and there is an suspended eviction notice hanging over her head from two years ago, plus she is in arrears with council tax. We agreed to send over a £90 cheque to be sent along with her debt relief order application.
