A couple with two children had both lost their jobs towards the end of 2015. Because of this they were reliant on their Tax Credits and JSA. Unfortunately, due to changes in how Tax Credits are calculated, HMRC decided they had been overpaid for a period last year, meaning that their £115 a week payments had been reduced to £15.
A welfare assistance agency who are well known to us were assisting them in disputing this overpayment. We sent them £200 to tide them over until such time their claim could be reinstated properly.
