A single dad who is self-employed as an artist has been in receipt of Universal Credit, where because some weeks he doesn’t earn anything at all, he is classed by UC as being un-gainfully employed. He has issues with inflammation in his vertebrae which means he is hunched over and sometimes unable to lift his head up to face whoever he is speaking to. This inflammation causes fusing of his vertebrae and leaves him in constant pain and discomfort. He lives with his 10 year old son who is no longer in contact with his mother, which has caused issues for the son, sometimes meaning he refuses to go to school. This means that his father is then unable to work, impacting further on their lack of income. The father has applied for Personal Independence Payment, but this has so far been refused. This young family have been relying on the support of food parcels from their local food bank. We agreed to send them £100 to help them out.
