Who we are
We are a small group of individuals who operate anonymously nationwide, assisting people in dire financial need. Many of us have direct personal experience with the problems our clients face and therefore we understand the issues. We only accept referrals through official organisations or where one of our volunteers has personal knowledge of the potential client’s situation. We do not accept direct applications from individuals. We like to think that we’re quite a nice bunch and we love to help whenever we can by offering ‘a crumb of hope’.
What we do
We provide small, one-off gifts with no strings attached to people who find themselves in dire financial need. Since we are a very small operation relying solely on public donations, our funds are limited and our gifts are usually quite small; around £30-£50 for cases relating to food and fuel poverty only. Examples of our work can be found on our blog at www.biscuitfund.org if you’re unsure of whether you should refer a particular case to us.
Who can refer to us?
Anyone working in a social, advisory or healthcare organisation is welcome to refer to us. We need to be able to verify that your organisation is genuine and that you properly represent them. As an example, we have worked with benefits advisory agencies, local housing teams, homeless outreach charities and similar. If you have any queries as to whether you are eligible to refer to us please don’t hesitate to get in touch at info@biscuitfund.org and we’ll be happy to advise you. We are open for referrals on Mondays and Tuesdays only, to manage the demand that is made of us.
How to refer a potential client to The Biscuit Fund
To refer a potential client for assistance from The Biscuit Fund we need as much information regarding their circumstances as possible, including their full name and date of birth, (we are fully GDPR compliant), an outline of their financial circumstances (i.e. what income they have and what debts, if any) and something about the need they find themselves in. This makes it much quicker for us to decide as to how best we can assist. In the past, we have had referral emails which have said something along the lines of, ‘A man called John came in today and he hasn’t got any money. His phone number is XXX.’ This doesn’t provide us with enough information to even consider the case, and as we don’t accept direct applications it gives us no way to verify their position. Providing as complete a picture as possible enables us to approve and organise aid normally within a matter of hours which can make a huge difference to someone in desperate need.
If you think you have a potential case for us, just drop us an email at info@biscuitfund.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes from The Biscuit Fund
