A young mum and her baby, previously living in a homeless shelter visited our agents for financial help and advice. Our agents are really impressed at how hard this young mother is working to be a good mother herself. As a child she spent a lot of her life living street homeless or in care. She has learning problems and is struggling to be able to budget properly. Our agents are helping her with budgeting and guiding her with how to cook cheap nutritious meals. They have also been making sure she has access to food vouchers to be able to feed herself and her one year old. We decided to send her £150 to help her address some small debts and have money for other things, to hopefully reduce some of the worry she is having, which is impacting negatively on her mental health.

Our client with this case is a young mum, who is expecting her fourth child. She and the children had come to our agents, homeless and in need of help. She has with their support been offered a place for her and the children to live, but she needed a weeks rent in advance to be able to go ahead with the hosuing association accommodation. Our agents are supporting her with her benefits claim, and as part of that they asked us to help her out with one weeks rent which came to the sum of £166.01, which we arranged payment of. This was an urgent case as if she didn't move fast with this, then she would loose the opportunity for her and her children to have a more secure life.

We were approached on behalf of a single mum who had had to flee her home following the kidnap and torture of her teenage son. She was under witness protection until earlier this year, resulting in her moving home nine times. She is still in temporary accommodaton, waiting on permanent accommodation. She was visited this week by our contact who reported that she had very little in terms of possessions and is very isolated, not knowing anyone in the area. Our contact is going to get her involved with some local groups so that she can make friends, but they wondered if they could request some financial help so she could maybe get a cheap secondhand TV. We agreed to send across £50 to help her.

We were contacted about a single mum with two young children who had unfortunately got into debt when she was switched over to being paid by Universal Credit. This young mum is deaf and suffers with anxiety, and the constant chasing from her creditors is only compounding the situation, making things far worse.
With the help and support of the agency, she is getting on top of her day to day bills, but she needs to apply for a debt relief order to sort this out. However raising the £90 to apply was beyond her means, so we agreed to send across a cheque for the £90 to be sent along with the application for the DRO. Hopefully she will be able to rebuild her life once the DRO is in place.
